A new drop-in space where residents can see, handle and try equipment designed to make everyday life safer and easier is opening in Scunthorpe.
From simple daily living aids and sensory equipment to the latest assistive technology, the new demonstration room at the Ironstone Centre will bring together practical solutions that can help people stay safe, confident and independent at home.
Residents can drop in every Wednesday from 30 September, between 10am and noon, without an appointment.
Staff will be on hand to demonstrate the equipment, answer questions and help visitors understand what could work for them or someone they care for.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The right piece of equipment can make the difference between struggling with an everyday task and being able to do it confidently and independently.
“There is some incredibly clever technology available, alongside plenty of simple ideas that people may never have come across.
“This is somewhere residents can walk in, have a look around, try things for themselves and discover what might make life easier for them or someone they love – we promised to keep people living independently for longer and this is just one example of us keeping that.”
The sessions are open to residents, carers and family members. People do not need to know what they are looking for or have a particular product in mind.
Cllr Christine Patterson, cabinet member for healthy communities, said: “You might be finding something around the house more difficult, worrying about a relative living alone or simply wondering what help is available.
“Come in, have a look and have a conversation. There is no appointment and no pressure – just friendly staff, practical demonstrations and useful information.”
The sessions will take place every Wednesday during the pilot period:
