Opened in 1996, the pool has served generations of families across the Isle of Axholme. More than 300 children currently take part in swimming lessons and club sessions there every week.
The funding will be used to refurnish the changing room, entrance and viewing area – creating a new visitor experience and giving the charity greater stability as it plans for the years ahead.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Epworth Swimming Pool matters to local families. Thousands of children have learned to swim there and people of all ages rely on it to remain active.
“We promised to work with the charity to protect the pool and give it a long-term future. This investment keeps that promise.
“The people who have kept the pool running for almost 30 years have shown enormous commitment. We are backing them so it can continue serving Epworth and the wider Isle of Axholme for years to come.”
Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for finance and efficiency, said: “This is exactly the kind of investment that matters: protecting a valued local facility, supporting the people who have worked hard to sustain it and ensuring it remains available for future generations.
“We will continue investing in facilities that make a real difference to people’s everyday lives and strengthen communities across North Lincolnshire.”
South Axholme Community Swimming Pool Association is a registered charity which has operated the pool independently for almost three decades.
Manager and trustee Rob Jenkins said: “The pool has served the Isle of Axholme and surrounding villages for over 30 years – generations of young people have learnt to swim here. We’re confident this major refurbishment will give residents many more years of swimming here, locally.
“There are many places in the country that do not have access to pools like this in rural towns and villages – this investment will help us keep this one here.”
Work is expected to start in November.
