A new creative project is coming to South Holland, giving local people the chance to share their stories and memories, while engaging in music and movement.
Launched by Story Tellers, South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership's Arts Council England funded NPO project, The Floor is Yours will bring residents, local creatives and community organisations together through music, dance and storytelling. As part of the project, Story Tellers has commissioned Tappin in to work with local communities, helping to celebrate the people, stories and experiences that make South Holland unique.
The project will take place on Sunday 18 April 2027 featuring a large-scale celebratory performance at the South Holland Centre, bringing together music, dance, storytelling and creative contributions from communities across South Holland.
Inspired by Ron Diggins, inventor of the pioneering Diggola mobile disco system, The Floor Is Yours explores how music, dance and storytelling can bring people together across generations.
Working with arts organisation Tappin’in, local creatives and community groups, the project aims to give people a platform to share what matters to them and celebrate the stories and creativity within their communities.
Councillor Elizabeth Sneath, South Holland District Council’s representative on the Story Tellers NPO culture board, said: “There is something very special about the way music and shared memories can bring people together, and The Floor Is Yours gives our communities the chance to celebrate exactly that.
“This project is about hearing the voices of local people and recognising the experiences, stories and creativity that make South Holland what it is today. It is an opportunity for residents to come together, meet others and share their own experiences.
“I hope people will take the opportunity to get involved, whether they have a story to tell, a memory to share or simply want to be part of this exciting community celebration. I look forward to seeing the project grow and our residents taking centre stage.”
