Whether it's responding to reports of food poisoning, supporting businesses to meet food safety standards, or helping to enhance private sector housing, North Kesteven District Council's Public Protection team is working behind the scenes to keep communities safe and thriving. Food hygiene inspections may be the most visible, or best known, part of their work, but the team’s responsibilities extend far beyond restaurant kitchens and takeaway counters.
Lincoln Civic Trust - new Blue Plaque unveiled by Hamish Falconer
The first of many commemorative plaques by Lincoln Civic Trust was unveiled at the old St. Swithin’s churchyard in 1956, and 70 years later, two new plaques have been installed at the site of the Lincoln Union Workhouse on Upper Long Leys Road and Burton Road.
Almost 2,000 North Lincolnshire households receive £550,000 towards heating costs
Almost 2,000 North Lincolnshire households reliant on heating oil or LPG have received £551,900 in energy support, with 1,797 heating-oil users receiving £300 each and 128 LPG users receiving £100 each. North Lincolnshire Council is proposing to continue the scheme until March 2027, with Cabinet set to consider the proposal on 21 September 2026.
Spalding Pumpkin Festival returns this October
Families can enjoy a free day of autumn fun at the Spalding Pumpkin Festival on Saturday 3 October, from 11am to 3pm, with activities, live entertainment, competitions, pumpkin displays and seasonal market stalls across the town centre. The event is free to attend with no booking required, offering something for all ages at Hall Place, Sheep Market and the Market Place.
Council removes more than £116,000 in council tax bills for families facing terminal illness
North Lincolnshire Council has provided over £116,000 in council tax relief to 68 working-age households affected by terminal illness through its compassionate support scheme. The Cabinet will consider extending the scheme, which offers up to 12 months of full council tax relief, until March 2028.
Civil Aviation Authority warns laser attacks on air ambulances are putting lives at risk
The UK CAA and Air Ambulances UK are warning that laser attacks are putting pilots, patients and lifesaving missions at risk, with 94 incidents involving emergency helicopters reported in 2025 and a further 35 in the first half of 2026. Jonathan Nicholson from the CAA is available for interview on Thursday to explain the dangers and how attacks can jeopardise critical missions, with regional incident figures and air ambulance spokespeople also available.
Imps sign Ogbene from Ipswich Town
Lincoln City have completed the loan signing of 29-year-old Republic of Ireland international Chiedozie Ogbene from Ipswich Town until January, adding pace, power and experience to their squad. Ogbene, who can play across the front three and at right wing-back, said he is excited to join the Imps and believes the club’s mindset and ambitions make it the right opportunity for him.
Oyegoke completes Imps move
Daniel Oyegoke has joined Lincoln City from Hellas Verona on a four-year deal, strengthening their defensive options after progressing through Arsenal, Brentford, Hearts and Verona. The 23-year-old right-back is excited to play in the Championship and believes Lincoln can have a successful season, while sporting director Jez George praised his versatility, potential and fit with the club’s recruitment profile.
Imps agree deal for Ladefoged
Lincoln City have agreed to sign Mikkel Ladefoged from Swedish top-flight side Västerås SK on a five-year contract, subject to international clearance and a work permit. The striker, who describes himself as a versatile target man, is excited to test himself in the Championship, while sporting director Jez George praised his character and determination to join Lincoln despite interest from clubs across Europe.
Food waste collections to begin in Boston this October
Weekly food waste collections across Boston Borough will begin from the week commencing 19 October 2026, following delays to vehicle deliveries and collection round reviews. From 26 October, side waste will no longer be collected, with all waste and recycling required to fit inside the appropriate bins.
Volunteers across West Lindsey get ready to welcome Tour of Britain
Volunteers across West Lindsey are preparing to welcome the Lloyds Tour of Britain, decorating streets, shops and windows ahead of the race on 2 September. In Caistor, volunteers have collected and decorated more than 40 bikes, while Market Rasen is also preparing events and cycling-themed displays for race day.
Horncastle to be part of Age-Friendly pilot project with launch of business award scheme
Horncastle has been selected as East Lindsey’s first pilot Age-Friendly town, with councils developing a new business award scheme and community initiatives to improve accessibility and inclusion for older residents. Monthly drop-ins at Horncastle Library will give residents and businesses the chance to share views, with the first taking place on 10 September.
Boston Borough Council - Boston Guildhall Museum achieves outstanding Visit England Quality Assessment Score
Boston Guildhall Museum has achieved an impressive **90% overall score** in its latest Visit England VAQAS assessment, up from 82% in 2025. The result recognises significant improvements to the visitor experience, including a 93% Attraction score and perfect 100% scores for Cleanliness and Retail. Recent investment in the welcome area, retail space, signage and branding has helped strengthen the museum’s offering.

DEFRA’s Sustainable Farming Incentive 2026 is driving farmers towards high-tech platforms that simplify complex funding applications while they tackle an increasingly challenging summer of heat and drought. With DEFRA now partnering with Ordnance Survey, three innovative startups will receive up to £20,000 each through the next Geovation Accelerator cohort to develop data-driven solutions for more efficient, resilient and sustainable land use. Geovation alumni such as JustFarm and Land App demonstrate the potential, with JustFarm already helping more than 700 farms plan SFI agreements, while Land App has mapped 80% of England’s agricultural land.
